This is a difficult record to talk about, as between our time working on the album and its release, founding member of HYOM and friend Owen Pegg sadly passed away, and makes this already monumental piece of work even more of a profound listen.
Having known the band for a long time, it was an honour to be asked to mix this album for them. 80 minutes of intensely deep and atmospheric metal, captured wonderfully in the Mill Hill Chapel space by Tom Goodall, I tried to include as much of the ambient sound of that room as I could, giving the band, and the album, the sense of scope that they deserve.
This was obviously a challenging album for the band to see through to release, and deserves attention from anyone with even a passing interest in post-metal. It has been emotional but absolutely amazing to see the band pull together to make this happen, not only in Owen’s memory but for themselves too, and I am so happy to see them continue to perform live.
