Get ready for an intense experience, because Wallowing do not do things by halves. Live, they have created an immersive intergalactic-themed environment complete with a weaponised smoke machine, and so to represent the depth of the world they have created on record was quite a challenge.
Musically Wallowing reside somewhere between grindcore, black metal and doom, we had to balance ultra low tunings (with low gauge strings for added BWWWOOOOOWWWWW) against clarity, and we had to balance walls of abrasive noise against intricate technical moments. On top of this, the record is completely narrative driven, and needed as much cosmic sound design as a short film, which lead to some incredible moments in the studio, with a cinder block solo, hundreds of incidental sounds, purchasing a Roland voice effects unit and hours of noise that was essential to the atmosphere of the album.
I can’t wait for the next time I get to see them live and visit Planet Loss again.
